(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) April 4, 2014-Celebrated modern hymn writers Keith and Kristyn Getty make their way back to the stage this month for a 20-city spring 2014 "Hymns for the Christian Life" tour, reprised for a fourth leg after successful runs throughout the United Kingdom and North America. The event marks the Getty's first public appearance since welcoming their second child in January.
Featuring a band of Irish and American musical virtuosos, the contemplative yet high-energy evening of congregational singing and corporate worship has graced prestigious music venues worldwide since launching in the United Kingdom two years ago, including sell-out performances at Waterfront Hall in Belfast, Northern Ireland; Ontario, Canada's Hamilton Place; and Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas.
The tour's popularity is due largely to the Getty's growing international renown, fueled by such beloved songs as modern church anthem "In Christ Alone." Consequently, the show highlights this along with other modern hymns and traditional favorites, hymns that, as Keith explains, "are about life once we're out of our pews, once we leave church..." The tour continues with the Getty's tradition of hosting a fun musical jam in the lobby after each show where band members are often joined by local players for an up-close-and-personal improvised music set.
The spring 2014 leg opened March 29 in Houston and will run through early May, visiting major markets including Philadelphia, Boston and New York. The tour will culminate in a performance at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tenn., May 6.
Additionally, the Getty's will be hosting a luncheon for pastors, music directors, and other church leaders in select cities along the tour. During this time, Keith will share his vision for hymns, worship and the importance of strengthening the church with a body of songs that can be sung for life. The event is designed to foster important conversation and helpful instruction, as Keith shares from his experience and discusses questions on these topics.
